Perverse Proportion
The more expensive the party, the more insecure (or overconfident) the leader? Bread and circuses, everyone!!

It just seems logical
If God is omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent, then what does it need us for?

We need it ... for whatever reason. I'm leaning toward the idea that religion is a byproduct of sentience: We're so overwhelmed by our awareness of our mortality that we have to create a framework of meaning to avoid dealing with it. If there's a god, then we aren't in charge. If we worship god, then we avoid the nothingness after death.

I'm not an atheist. I think I'm actually a deist. I think there's something bigger than human out there, but I don't think it needs me to chant, tithe, jihad or immolate in its honor. And I think that here on our speck of dust cruising through the universe, we are the top of the food and morality chain, and we need to start acting more responsibly. We aren't going to be rescued at some point, despite flood myths, green man myths, or virgins-in-paradise myths.
